Sleeve Gastrectomy

Sleeve gastrectomy, has several surgical names, including lap sleeve gastrectomy, vertical sleeve gastrectomy etc. Typically, it is a tried and tested and effective surgical weight-loss procedure. The procedure is typically 40 min to 1 hr and is performed laparoscopically, which involves inserting small instruments through multiple small incisions in the upper abdomen. During sleeve gastrectomy, about 80% of the stomach is removed, leaving a tube-shaped stomach about the size and shape of a banana. Thus, limiting the size of your stomach restricts the amount of food you are able to consume. In addition, it has been observed that this procedure prompts hormonal changes that assist with weight loss and furthermore, there hormonal changes also help relieve conditions associated with being overweight, such as high blood pressure, hypertension, sleep apnoea, fatty liver disease and/ or heart disease, etc.
